Seek And Destroy

Satan: Psst! Hey, Kristin.

Kristin: humming It Is Well as she folds laundry

Satan: Not chatty today, hm?

Kristin: No, I’m just in a good mood and I don’t feel like letting you drag me down.

Satan: Drag you down? You think I am respsonsible for the low points in your life?

Kristin: Absolutely!

Satan: But you believe God’s in control right?

Kristin: Duh!

Satan: Well, doesn’t that include the bad things?

Kristin: Uh…Yeah, I guess.

Satan: Then isn’t He the one that drags you down?

Kristin: He does let bad things happen to me, but that’s because…Hmm, I don’t know why.

Satan: Doesn’t sound like your loving God is so loving after all.

Kristin: Hey! I deserve hell for my sins! If He didn’t love me, that’s exactly where I’d end up…hell…looks disgusted with you.

Satan: Sarcastically Ooo, that hurts.

Kristin: Rolls her eyes

Satan: I saw you stub your toe earlier.

Kristin: So?

Satan: Didn’t you let a curse word slip out?

Kristin: blushes Erm…Yeah, I did.

Satan: Hm, you were on your way to check the mail, right?

Kristin: Yes…What does this have to do with anything?

Satan: You got a letter from that college you’ve been trying to get into…

Kristin: Interrupts Don’t remind me.

Satan: It sucks being rejected, doesn’t it?

Kristin: It really does. I had my heart set on going there.

Satan: Well, you’ve been letting a lot of curse words slip as of late.

Kristin: Um…Well..Wait, what does that have to do with…

Satan: Interrupts This is where my point comes in. Since you’ve gotten into the habit of swearing things have been kinda rocky.

Kristin: Are you insinuating that God is causing me suffering because I’m knowingly sinning?

Satan: Exactly!

Kristin: Hmm, Well, maybe I should start following Him so I don’t suffer.

Satan: No, no! Why would you want to give up listening to that explicit music, or watching those R movies? I mean, God doesn’t want you to have any fun.

Kristin: I’m confused. You’re saying that He doesn’t love me either way, so I might as well enjoy life?

Satan: Precisely.

Kristin: Hm…I guess that does make sense. He asks too much of me. I am only human. But, won’t He keep punishing me?

Satan: I see you haven’t quite grasped the concept after all. Yes, He is going to punish you but you might as well be enjoying life in the meantime.

Kristin: When I’ve gone through tough times, it was always worse when I shut Him out, though.

Satan: No, you must be mistaken.

Kristin: No, it’s true! You’ve got me believing God is this judge out to get me and cause me pain and suffering. Like, I better watch my back or He’ll strike me down. That’s not how He works!

Satan: Kristin, stick with me here, you were doing so well.

Kristin: Ignores him  I mean, God does love me! He wants to build me up. Not tear me down. Afflictions are not cruel tests He casts down on us. He loves me and He soothes me in my sorrows. Sin caused all the junk in the world.

Satan: You sound ridiculous.

Kristin: Do I? Oh…

Satan: You’re a Christian, bad things aren’t supposed to happen to you.

Kristin: Actually, that’s not true. He never said we wouldn’t face trials. He said we’d never face them alone and He’d never give us more than we could handle.

Satan: But…

Kristin: No, you’re listening to me now! I am so tired of you trying to wedge yourself between me and God. You do drag me down. I hate that I pay you any attention, but I’m weak on my own. I need God. He protects me. He wants to build me up and not destroy. You seek to destroy His children and His creation. You are the reason I suffer!

Satan: Listen to me!

Kristin: Resumes humming It Is Well

Satan: You’ve got it all wrong.

Kristin: Stands up and leaves the room, shutting the door behind her. Good ridance! Smiles
