Biometrics, Blood and Blades

I have been tentatively looking inside the mailbox for a week now, hoping to find another letter from Homeland Security telling me what my next step is. Finally, today, atop a stack of political ads and a couple envelopes addressed to my husband, was my much anticipated letter. As soon as I got inside I tore it open, relieved to see that it was informing me of my biometrics appointment. There is no logical reason for them to dismiss my case, but there is always that nagging fear in the back of my mind. So, if you think of it, please pray that all goes well with my appointment on October 28th. I’d appreciate it!

So, Halloween is just around  the bend. I seriously hate the celebration more and more each year. I was shopping for wedding supplies with my sister about a month ago and the craft store already had their spooky display set up. It was really eerie meandering the aisles looking at invitations and favors for my sister’s upcoming wedding, while the haunting voice of a decapitated bride, head in her hand, rang out. It was one of those creepy, Halloween decorations. Fortunately, I have been able to steer clear of the majority of those displays, since I have not been shopping in awhile.

I have not been as successful in steering clear of the ads for all the theme parks who are hosting some horror fest or another on Halloween or trailers for all the slasher, supense thrillers coming out (same as last year). We do have "mute" though! Wonderful button! Plus, I have the option of looking away, which I gladly choose. Honestly, as I mentioned last year, I used to get a rush out of this spooktacular part of the month. When I was thirteen I wanted to watch all the popular horror movies: Scream, Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Idle Hands, Final Destination etc. What harm was there in it? It wasn’t as if I was going to run out and act on any of it.

Looking back, I see just how wrong my reasoning was. Thanks to an ad on Myspace, I noticed there is yet another Saw movie coming out. This elicited a groan. Whenever I hear someone say they love that movie series, I shudder. What pleasure can one get out of watching human beings tortured and dismembered? And if you do enjoy that, I worry. What is appealing about watching the blood of these characters flow without end? I will say that I have never seen any of the Saw movies, nor do I plan to, but I have read thorough reviews from those who have. Tell me it’s the plot or storyline that hooks you; tell me it’s the characters or supposed moral; but I don’t buy it. There is way to much muck to wade through to find anything that resembles a moral fiber. Again, I am basing this on trusted reviews, not my own firsthand experience. However, I know that they are even more edgy than that horror flicks I once watched flash across my television screen, so I can in good conscience say they’re not worth anyone’s while…ESPECIALLY if you are saved! Please, as a Christian, consider what you let into your head this Halloween. I know they’re "only fictional characters" but would you want to watch one of your friends die such an excruciating, gruesome death? How about a family member? What makes it okay to watch it in a fictional setting? I dunno, I know there are plenty of things I need to check that I let into my life so don’t see this as me waggin my finger at anyone. It just really makes me a bit scared of anyone who gets a kick out of those horror movies. ‘sigh’

Alrighty, well that is all that is on my mind presently. I am gonna go get a snack. Talk to you later!
