…A NEW CAR!
Ok, so we didn’t win it off of some elaborate game show but we do now possess a car. That is, we shall have a vehicle in our possession when it arrives from New York. I am a little skeptical about the whole thing ’cause that is how I am, but I am trusting God will work it all out. Ray’s dad and step-mom, Nancy, got it for us! That’s a definate answer to prayer, especially since Ray’s previous ride has officially moved. Fortunately, some of his co-workers live nearby and are taking him in each morning. Relying and imposing on other people is not fun though, and we are eager to have our own wheels. Plus, I am uncomfortable with Ray walking over to their house in the dark each morning. (His bike tire popped…no more bike.)
In other news…
My paperwork has been sent out!!! The sad part is, the guy Ray was talking to estimated that it will be another two years before they even hear my case. That is how backed up the system is! Plus, we overstayed the 180 day limit (without a visa) so I do not qualify for a traveler document. Thus, it shall also be at the least another two years before I can go see my family in Canada. Well, I could go see my family in Canada but the US would not let me back in. Besides, when/if they finally accept my paperwork and give me a "green card" it will only be a temporary one. In another two years I will have to go in and have an interview, just to make sure I did not marry Ray simply to stay in the country. Trust me, marrying someone just to stay in the country is NOT worth it! I married him ’cause I absolutely, positively love him. I wouldn’t go through this just for the country, I am going through it to be able to support the one I love. He is carrying all the weight on his shoulders. I’d like to be able to drive him into work, or take him out for lunch on his break. Don’t get me wrong, I do like it here, I am just irked by all the red tape.
On a lighter note, it was a cause for celebration that the paperwork had been sent out. So, Ray grabbed the last copy of Pride and Prejudice (2005) from Blockbuster, some pop and chocolate and returned home to surprise me with his purchases. I was ecstatic! I love it when he does little things like that. We had some yummy pot pies for dinner and then cuddled up on the love seat to watch the movie. Just a word of note: Do not watch this version right after watching the Colin Firth (1995) version. This week-end we had watched the first of the two discs that make up the 1995 adaptation. I really wanted to see the updated version though. We began to watch Kiera Knightley flit around as Elizabeth Bennet and the moment it started we were lost. They jumped ahead and skipped large chunks, meshed scenes together. They did not even give much time to developing the characters. It was like watching Pride and Prejudice on caffeine. Mind you, this was aimed at a theatre audience and seems like a younger one too. So, to make it the length of the 1995 version would be out of the question. As it is, the Knightley edition is 2 hours long. Ray’s assessment was "If you have not seen the other or are not familiar with the story you will be lost." He was better able to enjoy the 2nd part of the movie, because he had nothing to compare it to. We both agreed that the air of the other movie was preferable to our taste. It was still enjoyable and I am glad I saw it. Not my favourite version, but it has its moments as well. It was just a quiet, relaxing time with my husband.
Future plans…
Our lease runs out in July. We are not sure what we are going to do. At one point New York was in the running, then it was out, now I am not sure anymore. I wish I had clear conviction but I don’t. I just want to make sure we’re in God’s will. I would like to move from this apartment, but I am scared that I won’t like the next place either. So, I am leaving it up to God. I don’t even know where to look or how to look for apartments. It is so confusing to me! I would appreciate your prayers in making this decision. We either have to stay here or move.
I guess that’s all for now.
