But a Whisper

But a Whisper

My voice is but a whisper,
in the murmer of a crowd.
I search for just one listener
who’ll hear me speak aloud,
those things which are on my heart.
Just one person to stop and hear
about times from His arms I did depart.
If only it were clear,
just what He’s done for me,
for I am but a messenger,
of heaven’s eternity.
But, whoa, the controversy I stir.
I am but a speck,
but still it’s me they see.
My heart is close to wreck,
Oh, Lord, I cling to Thee.
Why do they think me bigger than I am?
My words are not some inkling,
nor a spiteful slam.
Just the joy in my King,
I have come to find.

And never will I wish a rewind.

The Holy Bible is without flaw,
written by the hands of God.
It is the basis of human law,
and the reason for my laud.
Thus firmly on it I stand,
and this is where I remain.
This faith has earned me the world’s brand,
But I am covered by the Lamb slain.
On my own I am nothing,
without love, nothing still.
The words of men do sting,
and I have had my fill,
but onward Christian soldier,
into battle I go.
The eyes of men grow colder,
and yet I seem to grow.
Oh that they’d see you,
behind my conviction,
and find it all to be true,
and share in my position.
Alas, I am but a whisper,

…just a passing vapor.

My words may live on in friends,
and my legacy be long.
But for most it simply ends,
if they lived in shadows all along.
Quiet as my lips may be,
rocky as the boat,
tossed upon the sea,
I am not a goat,
destined for destruction,
I will speak up about my faith,
and follow His instruction.
Silence is not upon these lips,
nor upon this heart of mine.
Onto the water, from many ships,
I may boldly shine,
Yet, if I lose sight of Him,
I will truly drown.
Reaching out, for I can’t swim,
I grasp hold of His mighty crown.
All I want for those I love,
Is to do the same, and look above.

But I am but a whisper,
not the lasting Savior.
