I added a cleaning task on my Forty Before Forty list because it was a difficult one for me to accomplish, otherwise it would have been done a lot sooner. I figured if I put it on my list it would encourage me to find a moment and a way to make my bird decor cleaned up and the tops of the cupboards less icky. As the first month of the new year drew closer to its end, I realized that a perfect moment was probably not going to present itself anytime soon. Even if it did, I had other things I was more likely to need to get done in those brief moments of manageable health and bearable pain, so I just gritted my teeth and did it anyway.
When I climbed up on a chair to decorate on top of the cupboards for my daughter’s birthday in June, I realized that all of the grease and dust from the kitchen had settled on my little knick knacks. So, I made a mental note to clean up there later. However, I only just took all of the decorations from my daughter’s birthday party down after Christmas. (It was ivy and shiny green ornaments, so at least it didn’t look out of place outside of the context of her party.) Needless to say, it’s not a place I see up-close very often.

I am apparently not tall enough, even if I stand precariously on the counter, to clean the tops of the cupboards in a thorough manner. My husband tried to wipe them down somewhat, but it’s going to need a deeper clean eventually. In the meantime, I did a small, mostly blind, dusting. I scrubbed my little ceramic birdies down and set them out to try. It did hurt to scrub them because my hand protests with a noteworthy shot of pain everytime I move my thumb, and has been doing so for nearly a month now. This has limited my ability to accomplish some of my other goals on this list.

~Ew! Definitely in need of some cleaning.~

Was it an exciting goal to check off? Not really. It’s not exactly exciting to read about. Still, I am glad to look up and know my birds aren’t currently caked in grease and dirt. A win is a win!

~All squeaky clean!~
