Clad in a red, white and blue striped shirt and jeans, with star earrings dangling from my earlobes, I was set to celebrate this fourth of July. Raymond had to work though, so until his return home, I tidied the house and curled up to watch 13 Going on 30. Fortunately, Ray had a short day, so we got to spend some quality time together. Then, last minute, we decided to go see some fireworks. There was an awful lot of traffic to contend with, which came as no surprise. All the parking lots across from the main event were packed with people and cars, so we had some difficulty locating a spot. I thought we were going to be doing what many others were doing, which was watching them from their respective vehicles. People were darting out into the road, so they could cross and be closer to the display but we opted to remain on the opposite side. After all, it was dark, misty due to the fireworks and drivers were not as on top of things, because many of them were gawking at the festivities as well. So, there we stood, after nine "o" clock in the evening, on the side of the road watching fireworks. They were really cool though!
Raymond made a comment as we took in the show "This is how we celebrate the birth of a nation." It made me think about how as a nation, as a world…we celebrate the birth of our Savior. We celebrate with 50% off sales, fist fights over obtaining the last in stock of the newest and greatest toys and a jolly, old man in red. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see fireworks lighting up the sky in honor of a new born King? Wouldn’t it be neat to hear people shouting "Happy Birthday Christ!" just as on the fourth of July they cheer "Happy Birthday America?" It was just a thought I had.
I am looking forward to seeing my family and friends next week! I can’t believe it is less than a week away. I’m still anxious about the flight, but no more than any other time. So, my prayers are being heard! Thank God that He loves me despite me. I continue to pray for our flights, the drive to Canada and for the visit in general. Well, I am off to get my lunch. Thank you for reading 🙂
